The East Coast of the USA includes New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York City.

New Jersey is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the Northeastern United States. It is a peninsula, bordered on the north and east by the state of New York. New Jersey was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes such as the Lenape along the coast.

Philadelphia, known colloquially as Philly, is the largest city in the U.S. state and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the sixth-most populous U.S. city. Philadelphia is one of the oldest municipalities in the United States. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Philadelphia’s Center

The City of New York, is the most populous city in the United States. A global power city, New York City has been described as the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world, and exerts a significant impact upon commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, art, fashion, and sports. The city’s fast pace has inspired the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy.

Ninth Landscape – State Forest

My route mainly passed through the forests of the West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

West Virginia is a state located in the Appalachian region of the Southern United States and the state is almost entirely mountainous, giving reason to the nickname The Mountain State.

Maryland is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Among its occasional nicknames are Old Line State, the Free State, and the Chesapeake Bay State. It is named after the English queen Henrietta Maria, known in England as Queen Mary.

Eighth Journey – The Great Lakes

My journey through the Great Lakes area went through Chicago and Cleveland.

The Great Lakes are the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth by total area, and second-largest by total volume, containing 21% of the world’s surface fresh water by volume. Due to their sea-like characteristics (rolling waves, sustained winds, strong currents, great depths, and distant horizons) the five Great Lakes have also long been referred to as inland seas.

Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, across the U.S. maritime border with Canada. The city’s major cultural institutions include the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Orchestra, Playhouse Square, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Known as “The Forest City” among many other nicknames, Cleveland serves as the center of the Cleveland Metroparks nature reserve system.

Seventh Break – Chicago Approach

The Chicago Approach first takes place in Wisconsin and later Illinois, where I got to Chicago. It is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the third most populous city in the United States.

Chicago is an international hub for finance, culture, commerce, industry, education, technology, telecommunications, and transportation.

The skyline of Chicago, which is easily recognizable

The region also has the largest number of federal highways and is the nation’s railroad hub. The Chicago area has one of the highest gross domestic products (GDP) in the world, generating $689 billion in 2018. The city has had several nicknames throughout its history, such as the Windy City, Chi-Town, Second City, and City of the Big Shoulders.

Sixth Trip – The Great Plains

The Great Plains (sometimes simply “the Plains”) is a broad expanse of flat land (a plain), much of it covered in prairie, steppe, and grassland, located in the United States and Canada. It lies west of the Mississippi River tall grass prairie in the United States and east of the Rocky Mountains in the U.S. and Canada.

The narrow farmland roads of Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota are a speed run across middle North America.

The Plains are a great place for agriculture, since the climate is dry, the terrain is flat and the weather is not aggressive.

Third Stage – Death Valley

Death Valley is a desert valley located in Eastern California, in the northern Mojave Desert bordering the Great Basin Desert. It is one of the hottest places in the world along with deserts in the Middle East.

Death Valley is an example of a graben, or a downdropped block of land between two mountain ranges.

Death Valley has a subtropical, hot desert climate with long, extremely hot summers and short, mild winters, as well as little rainfall.

Sailing stones are a geological phenomenon where rocks move and inscribe long tracks along a smooth valley floor without human or animal intervention.

Second Stop – Yosemite National Park

First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.

First Start – San Francisco

This is where we start. So I went to check my car at the mechanic, fueled the gas canisters, grabbed a ton of food and off I go! It’s just me and American highways. I started from the West coast to the East coast, from San Francisco to New York City.

San Francisco is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California. San Francisco is the 15th-most populous city in the United States, and the fourth-most populous in California, with 883,305 residents as of 2018.

The city of San Francisco

It covers an area of about 121.4 km2, making it the second most densely populated large U.S. city.

Main attractions I saw in San Francisco:

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the 1.6 km strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
Alcatraz Island is located in San Francisco Bay, 2.01 km offshore from San Francisco, California, United States.
